I don't know if it is all male guineas or what, but mine really have no fighting instincts at all. I have never seen a tussle, and they usually run away from the chickens. Which is why I was suprised to see these actually grazing together.

Sometimes Oriental gamefowl get mistaken as a totally different type of fowl. Even by other birds. But mostly humans. "That's a weird turkey" is definitely not uncommon when you keep these guys

@BastyPutt how's it going for you? Mine isn't doing all too well. When he wants to mate, he has to mate. The hens usually avoid him because of it. But when they're in the coop they seem OK. When they're out and about is where the problem arises
So far not good. I'm seeing the same thing and for some reason he loves the smaller hens. The guineas just follow him around, but there is no interest in mating.

I'm starting to think it's an Oriental gamefowl thing. He will just grab them by their feathers, and will not give them up until they squat. I've seen him give up, but not often. It doesn't help that his mounting skills are terrible

Fortunately mine is really passive at the moment. I'm sure that will change. But he is so akward with his freakish long legs that I haven't seen a successful mount yet.

I've only seen two unsuccessful mounts. It's just that he's really rough with getting the hens to squat. I don't like that. Hope he gets better, but I'm not sure he will. I've seen a bunch of videos with aseel males doing the exact same thing, and that makes me not as hopeful. This is a video pretty much showing the behaviour I'm seeing. This is a whole a$$ video, but the behaviour I'm talking about is shown in the first few minutes, with the red male.

Oh shoot. Yea that's rough.
My hens are proving to be really pretty aggressive with him actually. I have one that is an ultra mutt and she is hunting him down everyday to fight, multiple times a a day. And others that just don't want him near them and spontaneously attack.

But when I look out there he is always just kind of following others around.... starting to think he may have some kind of special need 🤣 the other roosters don't feel threatened by him yet either. We named him Andre.

I am feeding him some higher protein crumble. Easy to do so by mounting a condiment cup higher on the feed station. He seems to appreciate that. Because we feed them primarily a home made grain mix, they really think the bagged crumbles are a treat. So they do seem upset at him when I bring that out there also.

BUT I will be butchering some roosters today - obviously not him, and that always changes the dynamic of things. I won't be taking the main boy, he is doing pretty good, but we have quite a few from the last hatch who aren't going to make good alphas.

So we will see.

I've actually heard of that theory before (referencing the fact that the mature males don't feel threatened by him. According to said theory, Oriental gamefowl stags will grow in their male specific feathers really early, but since they're so young, they don't crow or mate with the hens, and won't for another 5-6 months. Thus way, the mature males get used to them, since they don't mess with the females at all. By getting used to their presence, once the young males start mating and crowing, will receive a much more polite eviction notice from the flock. So your guy might not yet be sexually mature. I like the name a lot. He does look like an Andre
