Look what I found on my local CL šŸ˜šŸ˜

I absolutely love the dark variation it’s just gorgeous. I was scrolling Meyer earlier today and I was like I want this I want that omg that chicken is almost 100 dollars but I still want it! It took me about two months to decide between Cream Legbar Brahma and EE. Right now I’m thinking Silver penciled Plymouth Rock and Blue Copper Marans

I'm not really into those types of breeds, especially the Plymouth Rocks. I don't know why. So I can't give you good advice on that. But the silver penciled looks nice, although I think the dark brahma is even better, even if the price is...cray cray

I don’t mind paying a lot for chickens I think I paid 22 dollars for my splash marans. I have 2 RSL I love the egg production but they don’t live for that long and they usually die of reproduction issues. I want a good solid production breed that has a long life and is pretty the SPPR seems perfect for that category if I do end up going with the DB I would probably forgo the SPPR and try the barred variety instead.

I can't even think of eating one of my ducks let alone a pig
There is a huge difference for me when it comes to roosters and broilers. If I can decide early (or right when I buy the broilers) that they will be for eating, no problem. However, I have never or will never butcher a hen who has laid eggs for me. They will always live their life out here in peace.

When I was 7 my whole family was killed in a tragic accident. Parents, one set of grandparents and a grandpa, aunts and uncles, etc. which left me being raised by a single grandmother. This combined with my wife being the most special person on the planet, has innately given me a heightened respect for females of all species. So I know this plays a huge role in that.

I got lost. Dark Brahmas for $100?

I’m super indecisive so I’ve been thinking of breeds I want and comparing them to colors and egg colors I want and need. I need a good production layer and I want a sweet pretty chicken. Its been rough deciding and this is for my order next year. I’ll probably post a poll and see what is should do later on.
I wanted bantams that were clean-legged, had good egg production, and were friendly. I also wanted to breed the next generation, so I nixed EEs. I liked Welsummers, Barred Rocks, and Delawares. Due to availability issues I went with Speckled Sussex and Dominiques. Neither are heavy layers, but I want to keep them around for years if possible, and am willing to give up 300+ eggs annually for longevity.

I am so very sorry to hear what happened to your family. I am thankful that you have such a wonderful wife and a Grandmother that was able to raise you. That had to be absolutely horrible for you to experience that. I can surely see why you would have that respect for females. I hate to get rid of my drakes but a person can only do so much when it comes to controlling the numbers and outcome of the sexes of their animals.
