Look what I found on my local CL 😍😍

On another note - our leased buck showed up today. I always love how the does run up and just start loving on him. The emotional demonstrations of livestock are just too much sometimes.

About 5 months and we will have goat kids running around! My favorite time. Love them so much.

(And goat milk back in full swing! We usually give the does about a 3 month break, and losing that milk is devastating!)
Oh gosh! Get ready for some super-cute times! Do you make anything with the goats' milk or just drink it? How many months out of the year can you actually get milk under normal circumstances?

Got rid of 7, in order to add 10 new chickens. That is proper chicken math.
Guess I wasn't clear!

Got 10 chicks, SR was 7/3 male to female.
Got 6 more supposed to be female, but got 2 male & 4 female.
10+6=16 chicks, 9 male, 7 female.
Rehomed 7 males 9-7=2

Currently
2 males
7 females
:D

And the white and black is wether from last year who we loved and had to keep. Not sure what his plan is in the mix, but he is getting some love too 😂
I want a couple of wethers.

But before I can get them:

First the trees need to be removed from on top of the fence.
Then the fence can be repaired.
Then after I retire I can get goats.

The wether is a nice little goat, but doesn't contribute anything at all. The milking does are awesome.

From a Nigerian dwarf, You can get about a quart of milk/day from a doe after her first kid. It will go up a quart after each kid and max out at 3 quarts for a good milker.

5 goats costs me about $15/week in feed - treatments, etc. when they can't graze and $0 when they can graze.

I love the goats for what they do for us. They are one of the best contributors here.

You can keep a doe in milk 100% if the time, as long as you keep milking them they will keep producing. I just think it is best to give them a break. We will stop milking in November and the will kid in Feb. and obviously be back in milk then.

We do make about everything under the sun. Sweet Goat cheese logs covered in fresh blueberry jam, smeared on a cracker is one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth.

But we have 5 sons and not a drop goes to waste.

We have a constant battle with undergrowth, honeysuckle, poison ivy, wisteria, privet, dog fennel, other vines. A wether or two could help keep the triffids at bay.

Oh you better believe it. We had 3 adult goats for awhile before we kept a wether and a doeling from last year. But the 3 would clear a 1/4 acre in about 2-3 weeks. I'm not super familiar with those weeds, but I know there is very little they won't eat.

I know some will bring in goats to clear out underbrush, have seen articles and videos about how efficient they are. I have looked for goats to rent, and there are some that do it, but none listed close by.

If I got a wether or two, and they did well, I might add a doe or two. I'm on a 1/3 acre, backyard is fenced in aside from where a couple trees went down. It could work.

Yep, they don't need a whole lot of space.
