Look what I found on the droppings board: (photo)

I don't think you will find it 40 times. Just sometimes when they start to lay they have trouble getting it all together. I have had double yolkers, what they call a fart egg, little bitty and a few soft shells. They probably won't all have a boo boo egg tho. They will also figure out what is happening and get off the roost and go to the nest boxes.

congrats on your first egg of many more to come

No, they won't all do that. Mine just normally started off with very small or "pullet" eggs. Wind eggs are very small like the size of a quarter. The eggs gradually get bigger as they get older.

Congrats!!! Soft shelled ones are normal when they start laying. Great yolk color!

Probably more than that...my chickens each did it a few times...i still get a lot of double yolks also, and one of my chickens has been laying a close to goose size egg.

OK, I have done as suggested by a friend. I added the "flour," from the oyster shells to the feed .... just sprinkled some on. I sure hope I don't reach in one of those nests and FEEL one of those eggs. ...

Just happy to be getting eggs!

I was wondering, my girls are about to start laying.
I was told that chickens are almost blind in the dark, so if one needs to lay an egg in the middle of the night, how does she find her way to the nesting box?

I have been getting some of those too.

On the bright side, look at the color in that yolk! When she gets her shell apparatus in sync you should be getting some fine eggs!

congratulations!

I think it's great that no-one ate that egg. My girls probably would've hoovered that right up.

Maybe your girls were just as puzzled as you were.
