Luckily it or any hawk for that matter can't get into my chickens! We lost several hens last year between hawks, coons and snakes, so we have them locked and penned up like Fort Knox now. I believe it's a Eastern Screech Owl. Goodness my heart is still racing!
Oh my!!!! How beautiful!!!! I am so glad he is alright and you are so LUCKY to get to touch such a majestic creature!!!! I am thinking you are also lucky he didn't decide to get mean with you!!! LOL
Can you imagine the stories he's going to tell his owl friends?!
"I was just flying along looking for a meal and BANG! I hit this shiney hard thing and I must have gotten knocked out and then I was abducted by ALIENS! WICKED!"

No its is a Juvinal Great Horned Owl, likely just fledged a few weeks ago.
Please be carefull posting pictures of such a bird in your hands, they are A Protected Species and heavy fines amass when Game and Wildlife find out about such.
Glad It is ok but I am sure the booger will be back.
He was too stuned to be mean, I was just hoping it lived. I held it as far away from my face as possible except when it was wrapped up in a warm towel to help it for shock.
