Look what showed up on our doorstep today!

I think they were mostly only saying that with the thought that she was a bait dog specifically and not just that she was a pittbull.. I'd be leery of ANY dog used as bait until it was healthy enough to show it's true colours. Because even if the only effect is timidness - there's fear biting. That said, I'm not saying she was or wasn't.. just.. be leery in any case 'till she is more lively as anyone should with any strange dogs. She is cute though.

I'm thinking if she was a bait dog, she would have scars all over her body, not just her face. I can actually see the ticks in her ears!
I had a pit from puppy to elderly. Wonderful dog.
I have to agree, as I have rescued and fostered, you must be careful with her for a while. Not because she is a pitt, but because she is a strange dog. She looks thin. Wondering how she is when she eats? Protective of her food? If so, as you may already know, not a good sign. I sure hope she turns out to be fine. So many pitts out there getting ragged on. They are beautiful dogs. Sweet dogs. You can take a cocker spaniel and make it mean. Let us know how she turns out..and if you are keeping her? Love the color.

Poor pup! I've been doing pit rescue for about a decade. You find them in the worst shape, but they are the best dogs you will ever have. Is she fixed? Let me know if you need help getting her spayed or getting her vaccines or anything else. I will do my best to find a rescue that will help. There are a lot of them. The hardest part is finding them homes, which is ironic since they fit so well into so many homes.

Yes, I do believe those are ticks.

Many years ago, one of our AmStaffs was stolen and used as a bait dog. Through a lot of hard work and luck we got her back in 36 hours. She almost died. This dog does not have the injuries or scarring of a bait dog.

Thank you to all of you with kind words. Kennedy, as the kids have dubbed her, is doing well this morning. I Frontlined her as soon as I saw the number of ticks in her ears. This morning I would say that about 90% of them are gone. I have never in my life seen so many ticks on a dog! I was picking up dead and dying ticks off the floor all evening. She is well rested this morning and showing more emotion. Good emotion! She is happy and excited. Her temperament is the same. Sweet, non-confrontational and zero food aggression. Food aggression was the first thing I looked for. I'll be worming her today and picking up some vaccine on Friday when I am in town. Then all she'll need is a bit of vet work. That is if we are keeping her. My husband hasn't said yes or no yet.

kaddidle, our county actually has a gal that does dog rescue. She often has grants for spaying/neutering so I'll check with her first. There are no local pit rescues that I could find online. Not surprising as we don't have a big metropolitan area here. 300 miles is the closest one that I could find. If we don't keep her, I would definitely place her with a pit rescue. I agree that they are a breed that's been given a bad rap. A dog is what you make it so much of the time. I will also be looking around to see if she has been lost. She is house trained and is completely at home inside. However, I always keep my eye out for lost dog ads because we have so many out here. I haven't seen any for a pit.

Here are a couple pics from this morning.

BLESS YOUR HEART ANG!!!!!!!

I have rescued several pitties in my life. They are my favorite breed and I've seen the ones I've rescued become the most wonderful loving pets. Its as if they realize you have saved their life. I hope you get to keep her and love her for the rest of her life.

To anyone who worries about "PITBULLS"....
I know a lot of people have expressed concern because of the breed. I don't knock them for their worry, but please....I beg you....don't let the bad rap stop you from showing kindness to an animal that truely needs help.

Pit bulls are one of the most devoted and loving dogs out there. That is why they are so easily trained for fighting, because they want to please their master. The drive to please is so strong it makes them easy pray for humans who do wrong.

ANG, AGAIN BLESS YOU FOR SHOWING THIS PUP LOVE AND KINDNESS!!!!!!
