I am looking to purchase a guard goose for my chickens. I would like a tufted Roman. However, all of the order sites require me to purchase at least three. I understand that for shipping reason, but I only need one goose. I plan on purchasing more chickens to raise with the goose, but the hatcheries I have found do not allow this. I am in Alabama. Does anyone know how I can get just 1 goose for my backyard chicken flock of 5?

Unless you already have a goose, you need at least two geese. Keeping one lone goose, even with other species of birds, is not fair to the goose. As someone who accidentally owned one goose for awhile, I can tell you this from experience. Yes, she was raised with chickens. No, she was not totally happy with them without another goose.

Also, when you say guard goose, what are you hoping the geese will do for you? If you're looking for them to alert you to predators so that you can run out and deal with them, then that's fine, and that's what they'll do for you. If you're looking for an animal to fend off predators and defend your flock from them, geese aren't going to be what you're looking for.

If you want to get just two geese in an order and fill the rest of your order out with chickens, then I do know a hatchery you could order from to do that.
