My beloved rooster, Henry, passed away in January. I never thought I would want another rooster because they scare me but he was the sweetest and kindest rooster and now the coop feels empty without him. I am only looking for a kind rooster that won’t chase people or kids and is gentle on hens. I know those are rare and hard to come by so I am not really expecting to find any. But I figured I would put my feelers out to see if anyone might have one they are getting rid of. I am in northwest Indiana and willing to drive a reasonable distance and/or pay for gas to meet somewhere halfway.

So sorry for you loss. :(

Plenty of good roosters exist, but of course those are the ones people like to keep! lol I wish I could give you one, but I'm far away from you.

Check your state thread here, and neighboring ones if you are close to any border. Also the Buy/Sell/Trade section here (oops, that's where this post is... sorry). Your local craigslists, FB, etc.

Would you be interested in a non-tufted rumpless Araucana? The lady I bought my rooster from has one of his full brothers for sale. All her roosters are gentle. Mine is an absolute gem with both people and his flock (6 hens). She has his two brothers in together with only 9 hens and she said they get along just fine. They are 1 year 2 months old. If you would be interested I can email her and see if she still wants to part with him.

Thank you! Those are definitely the kind of roosters that people want to keep, which is why I’m not really expecting any luck. But I will definitely keep trying. Thank you for the suggestions! I’ll go look in those places now :)

Oh that would be wonderful! Thank you! Those sound just like the sweet and gentle kind of roosters I am looking for. :)

Yes, the rooster is still available! She only wants $10 for him. He does have a significant amount of leakage and is non-tufted so he wouldn't be for showing or an ideal breeder for show stock. But they make the best pets! This is my rooster, his brother, and they are almost identical except mine has tufts:

The rooster is in Anderson, which is about a half hour north east of Indy. I'm about halfway between your area and Anderson. I may go down to her place next weekend to look at chicks, if you would be willing to meet in Rochester I could pick him up for you.

Oh thank you so much! That would be fantastic! And I don’t care about show or breeding quality, I really just want a good tempered roo. Your boy is adorable though!
This is my email, if you would like to email me, I can give you my cell number or we can just email to arrange details. Thank you again so much!
