Looking For A Recipe In The Old Betty Crocker Book ?Pg 49,Coffee Cake

Picky eaters? Never could understand why people have kids that are picky eaters. Mine always knew that if they didn't eat what was on the table they would be waiting for the next meal and that meal also stood a real good chance of being the same thing they earlier turned their noses at. The secret is that kids should always been given the choice of eating or not eating.

I'm with you Opa.

We had a rule at our house. You had to try anything new. You didn't have to eat a lot, but you had to give all new foods a REAL TRY. No faces, no "eeewwww!" comments, no acting like a jerk... just give it an honest taste. My oldest son tried the attitude thing a couple of times. Each time he was given a heaping bowl instead of the tiny spoonful I originally offered. He learned.

I'm sure there are a few things you don't like. I do make them try things (like wifezilla mentioned) and being dramatic is a no-no. If they try it and honestly don't care for it then I don't make them eat it again. But they have to try it.
I should add that my kids were exposed to all sorts of food groups/varieties (to prevent picky eaters) and they are not what I call picky. They don't fall in the Micky D's and frozen food group either. They like my home cookin!

I agree with Opa. My kids ate what was prepared or went with out. We were on the farm, so we had lots of different veggies. The kids also grew their own veggies, so they were always excited to try everything out. They did have to just try something new. With 6 kids you really don't have time to spoil anybody.

My kids eat what is prepared. I figure that I am not a short order cook and I don't want to feed them junk. It's been that way all along so I don't feel like they are picky eaters now because of it. I do not force them to eat it all or anything, but they do need to try something new.

we always insisted they take a no thank you bite.. if they don't like it at least they tried it.. but i don't have any picky eaters.. we eat anything from mexican, italian, indian, chinese,, well you get the idea.. anything goes
