I got 4 chicks and one turned out to be a male. We did not want to give him away because we were afraid of what might happen to him. So we looked into having him neutered.
We talked to a medical Dr. who is an expert. So told us that it’s a very dangerous procedure and veterinarians dont do them any longer. It is very high risk for your bird., they can hemorrhage our.
However, there is a yearly hormonal implant that is a lot less risky for the rooster. There is initially bloodwork (only before the first implant) that has to be done to make sure he’s healthy. Then the cost is very reasonable.
As with all our animals, they are forever pets. They are not disposable, we made a commitment to care for them. So “Roo” will be having his bloodwork done in a couple weeks, and them getting his implant.
