Hello,
I'm looking for around 6 semi-incubated eggs.
I live around the Cinti, Ohio area, and I'm looking for about 6 chicken eggs that are fairly close to hatching.
I would like to put them under two chickens that are currently setting on duds. If anyone around this area could help me our, I'd really appreciate it.
I need them to be wirhin a short driving distance from me, so I could get them, and keep them warm in transit.
Thanks

And going for two months straight without food or water won't cause her to die from hunger? If the eggs are kept a a heated temp for only an hour, do you really think they wouldn't survive?

Brooding hens don't go without water and feed while they are broody they usually get off the nest for 10-30 minutes a day to eat, drink, bathe whatever.

And also the cooling down would only kill a few most likely. overheating kills way more than cooling a bit. Cooling for the most part just slows down the hatch. The move itself though would have to be pretty gentle to be successful. Easy to scramble and kill a young embryo.

I was going to call our local hatchery tomorrow, and see if the had eggs due to hatch next week. Would transit be easier for older embryos?

No hatchery I know of would sale eggs that close to hatching and if they do they will charge the same price of the actual chick. It's the jostling around that damages/kills the embryos. They are very fragile at all stages of hatching but the first week is probably the most fragile. I agree to just let her start with fresh eggs if possible.

Have you considered trying an adoption?
Plenty of times I have swapped the hen's eggs for chicks at night. You just quietly and sneakily take the egg in the dark and slip a chick under her, and repeat every ten minutes or so if she accepts them. You have to be careful, but I have managed to do it with chicks as old as a week and a half - I have not tried older ones. Look it up.
