A while back (a year or more) I saw a post - I think it was about providing shade in a run - but someone had posted a picture of their solution.
They had made tomato cage like things and planted something in the middle. It had smaller gauge wire down low to keep the chickens from reaching in and larger gauge up high so that the people could reach in to harvest. Whatever it was grew up and spread out over the top of the run. I remember a comment that whatever stuck out of the cage, hung down low enough or fell from the overhead vines was the chickens'. But I can't find the picture or the post.
