Not too long ago I had an old feeder for my adult chickens that I just loved, I ended up having to get rid of it as it finally rust through.

I will try to describe this the best I can and I am sure some of the "old timers" will know what I am talking about.

Ok...the feed bin was approximately 18 inches of the ground with a wire slotted cover to keep the chickens out but allow them to stick their head in to feed. Iwas about 3 feet or so long. The feeder had two perches on either side that too were about 18 inches off the ground. The hens had to hop up on the perch to feed. The feed bin was also far enough from the perch that it prevented the hens from flicking the feed out but still feed.

I loved this feeder, it was the only feeder I ever owned that basically had no waste.

Anyone know where I might find one?

Best of luck finding one. The last one I saw of these was when we were pushing over the last part standing of one of the chicken barns and there were a few that were nearly completely rusted out in it from the 50's.

But perhaps you could make one! Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do. Maybe a purchased hopper type feeder mounted on a mini picnic table like structure?

This is NOT my feeder...I just searched for images and came across this...it sounds like what you mean except this appears to be wood instead of metal...but you could prolly duplicate it easily enough.... even put a roof over it for outside.

That is an AWESOME feeder!!! For free range birds that is really nice, too big for my coop although I guess the idea could be scaled down considerably but really nice style! Good luck finding one, this is the first I've ever seen and truthfully I would have thought it was some kind of homemade magazine rack had I seen it in a flea market, loL!..might have painted it and used it as one!!!

I had one of these years ago and sold it when we moved and wouldn't be having chickens for some time. I was thinking about it recently and wondering if we could build a similar one when I came across this at our local auction ($25.00 ~~ whoohoo).

It is the best feeder!~ I really like the pic of the wooden built one, too. Will have to keep that for future reference.

Good luck in your search!

I'd say chickens would have hard time sitting on it. The top looks like it spins. Judging by the nails sticking out the top, there used to be a fourth slat as well. Nice design, you can still pour right through the slats into the bin. Might have to build one of those...

I know what you are talking about. We have an old chicken barn with four or five still in it. These ones are about ten feet long though. More of a commercial application.
