Looking for baby Silkie Chicks for Christmas gifts!!

We are in SoCal and got our bearded splash silkies from Amber Waves, a breeder in Norco. Debbie is the owner/breeder. Ours are a month old and I think she continually breeds so she should have some chicks and she ships. Best of luck with the Christmas surprise! I added bits for cuteness overload...this is Hedwig and Winnifred.

Thank you for the reply! Your splash silkies are oh so cute!!! I actually did look into the breeder you mentioned in Norco but it is just too far from where I am to travel. I appreciate the info though! I found a breeder closer to me and am supposed to go there tomorrow to see and hopefully bring some babies home! :fl Best of luck to you and your new little ones and have a great holiday!

Amber Waves ships one month old silkies so you wouldn't have to drive. They aren't newly hatched but they are very tiny. Luckily we could just drive and pick up. My one month olds still fit easily in the palm of my hand. They are really delicate compared to our other large breed chicks. If the place you go tomorrow doesn't work out keep them in mind as another option, though I'm wishing you the best of luck getting some silkies closer to home. I hate the idea of seeing babies like mine packed in a box and shipped. I was nervous about them making a trip to my sons classroom yesterday! Lol! Best of luck and happy Thanksgiving! Post some pics when you get some chicks!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the info and I will definitely keep them in mind should tomorrow not work out for some reason. I will post some photos as soon as I get them home and settled:D

Hi everyone! Just wanted to give an update since some of you were curious if I was able to find and bring home some baby silkies. It’s been a busy last two days but YES we traveled to see them yesterday and brought 3 of them to their new home yesterday evening! We also added 3 other babies (1- Barred Rock, 1- Mille Fleur d’Uccle and 1- Buff Orpington) to complete our little flock of 6! I have posted some photos of all 6 of our new babies for you all to see! We can’t wait to surprise our kids tomorrow!! Thank you again to everyone who gave recommendations, help, info or offered up your babies to us. I appreciate it all! Happy holidays for us and our 6 babies!

Could you provide me with contact information for Amber Waves? I can't seem to find her.

My family and I are looking to start our first little coop and we’re planning on surprising our two young children (7 & 4) with some baby chicks for Christmas! I realize this isn’t exactly the “season” to be looking for chicks but we’re hoping we’ll have some luck! I have contacted a handful of feed stores in my area (I live in between Monterey- 1 hr away and San Jose- 1 hr away opposite direction) did a bunch of online searches and unfortunately have had very little luck this time of year. I did speak to Farmers Feed of Gilroy which is very close to where I live and looks like we may have some luck with them with their Plymouth Rocks and Orpingtons since they receive chicks year round! However, I REALLY am hoping to get some Silkie chicks as well and can’t seem to find any and am heart broken! If anyone is selling or knows of a place selling baby Silkie chicks either in the Monterey/San Jose/Central Valley area please send any and all info my way. I greatly appreciate it!
I had that same problem last year. I had my heart set on those tiny fluff-balls. But, hatcheries and feed stores don't often have those babies in stock near Christmas. You might have to settle for the Plymouth Rocks and BOs. If your lucky, you might could find a good breeder/farmer on Craigslist. I found a honest man who was selling healthy chicks on it. His chicks were the start of my flock. If you REALLY have your heart set on the silkies, you could always get them in the spring and create a side flock. [I have a flock of four, healthy Craigslist chickens, and a small flock of two silkies who live in a separate, small coop I bought from a friend. Well, I wish you good luck with your soon-to-be flock, and a very Merry Christmas!
