Hello everyone. I'm totally new to this site and to chickens in general. We finally got around to finishing our chicken coop (we built and designed it ourselves) and now are looking for 2 hens to make it complete. We want to get a pair of Buffs, fairly young (they don't have to be baby chicks), but are having the hardest time locating any in the Los Angeles area. We realize, now, that it's not exactly chicken season, but I hate for the newly built coop to sit empty for the next few months. As first timers we want to stick with the Buffs, due to their great personalities. We heard Black Australorps were good too so we actually wouldn't mind one of each. If anyone out there can help with our search we'd greatly appreciate it!
Thank you!!

and good luck on your search. I know there are many Californians on here and, hopefully, some will chime in with your needs. There also many breeders on here that sell eggs. Maybe borrowing an incubator for a few weeks could be an option. Then they'll be laying by spring.

You should also try the "breeders" page on the Backyard Breeders and Hatheries forum....I think it's a sticky at the top of the page...

Good Luck!

I am in the Los Angeles area……well 80 miles from LA. I would like to get to know others in the area that take their chicken breeding serious. It would be nice to get some decent chickens, chicks, and fertile eggs from someone. Mutts are ok, but I would like to get stock that is not mixed. Showing chickens might be fun.

I'm in Long Beach and would be interested in a buff to join my 2 girls - an Araucana and a barred Plymouth. There's another post on this site from someone in Orange Co. looking for a buff. If we can't find anything local, I would be interested in splitting an order of eggs - unless my Christmas dreams come true and Santa leaves a chick under the tree for me! I was going to try Ham & Eggs Ranch in Norco if I'm not gifted a chick - not sure if they have Buff Orpingtons, but I know they have some interesting breeds.

I know you said you don't want to wait a few months but by mid-march most of the feed stores in the area will have an assortment of chick to choose from and I think I am planning on getting at least one BO, maybe more! Good luck on your search and happy holidays!

Hi,

I am pretty new to backyardchickens.com. I have been organizing an order with Welp Hatchery. The order includes Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Red sex-linked, and Easter Egger pullets. If you want to add on to the order, let me know asap, since we already have the minimum 25 and are ready to order pending one person deciding exactly which breeds for her 5 chickens. I hope to order Friday or Saturday. The Orp pullets with shipping are about $2.50 each. We are trying to get them delivered the week of Feb 2 or Feb 9. You would have to come to my house to pick them up. Let me know if you are interested.
