Hi All,

We are devastated to have lost our magnificent Barbara, the heartbeat of our original flock. Our girl Willa is now in need of some friendship and I'd love to get a couple of new hens integrated with her before it starts to get cold in the north east. We are on a couple of acres of land in Woodstock, NY -- looking for hens only -- will take special needs, non layers -- we have a ton of love to give and they will have a forever home here with us. I know I could buy some youngsters but I'd like to adopt/rescue. Any leads in the area, please let me know! Will travel and pick up for the right situation. Our beautiful and precious Barbara pictured below.

I am so sorry about your Barbara. She was the most beautiful girl and it looks and sounds like she lived an amazing life surrounded by love. :hugs I recommend checking Facebook posts from people in your area about chickens that are being surrendered, and I also found 2 links for adoptable birds in NY. Unfortunately, most of these birds are roosters. I think you'll have the best luck checking Facebook though.

Good luck on your search for friends for Willa.☺️

So sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl.

You might also call around to smaller/local feed stores in your area to see if they have any returns or know of anyone looking to rehome. The smaller stores will often have relationships with chicken keepers.

When we had a solo girl, we got lucky with our local shop. Someone had returned four pullets, three had been taken by someone else, but a Light Brahma had been left behind because they didn't want a heavy breed. So we found a companion for our solo girl and helped out a lonely little girl who'd lost her flock. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Good luck.
