Looking for Easter Hatch Buddies!!!

I have duck eggs and goose eggs. The duck eggs haven't been candled yet.

I have four PIlgrim goose eggs. All four are developing nicely, good veining. These are from Kandace (greenfamilyfarms). That is %100 fertility. They are great for shipped eggs.

I have 5 African goose eggs. One shows good strong development. The jury is still out on the other four. I can see something, but it's hard to candle goose eggs with their thick shells. I did toss one last night. It was totally clear and when I broke it, I could see it hadn't been fertile at all.

So I have 9 goose eggs and a dozen duckies in the bator. I'm just dying to candle the duck eggs!

Well, my bator is now empty.... Out of 23 eggs set, 3 blood rings, 19 clear or broken yolk and one -- OOPS! -- dropped on the floor (but no embryo).

HOWEVER, these were just TJ's eggs used to calibrate the incubator.... And I thought the coloring on the yolk was horrible.... a real pale yellow. Hatch rates for store-bought are notoriously low, so felt lucky I even had three starters.

So I will root for y'all with great eggs from the sidelines and I can hardly wait for all the fabulous chick pictures to come!

p.s.

Since the egg quality was so dubious, I've ordered up some eggs to arrive next week. ...and, yes, I know the hazards of mailed eggs, however I've learned my lesson here to candle eggs BEFORE placing in the incubator so that scrambled yolks don't get a week of auto-turner joy riding.

Me thinks that my IRS refund is going to look like a fancy set-and-forget Brinsea

....the fear of temperature spikes is maddening and I just want to eliminate operator error as a factor in less than optimal hatches.

Keep growing Eggies!

How is everyone coming along with their Easter eggs? Today was weird to say the least. I noticed my humidity was low at 25%, so I added a little water. In 30 minutes or so condensation built up on the window. This is the second time this has happened in 2 days.

My husband and I thought this wasn't right, so we put a new thermometer/humidity gauge back in. It read 70 % which made sense with the moisture build up on the window. So we dried the window off and now it's down to 67%. It will get down to 55 to 60% if I crack the lid. Our main concern is if 70% of humidity going to harm the chicks on day 7? Now we are getting the humidity back down slowly. We want it to be in the 45 range if possible without dropping the temperature.

I am candling TONIGHT!! Woo!

As for humidity, I keep mine between 25 and 30% Even the littlest bit of water spikes it, so I guess you could call me a "dry hatcher"

Well, I candled last night, and I am disappointed, but what am I gonna do??

Out of the 12 eggs Tanya (Ms.FuzzyButts) sent me, 4 are developing.

Out of the 18 eggs from Rita (atlchick) 7 are developing.

I did not open any of them to see why, should I? I just left them, but marked the ones that are developing.

BUT, I am

about the 11 that will hopefully hatch!!!

That is great news that you've got 'em going! I've heard that IF you get 50% to hatch, that's a good hatch from eggs mail ordered. Most often you hear tales of woe, so the fact that any is happening at all is fabulous! (No offense to the egg senders there...I'm not dissing their flocks production or packing, just that postal handling can negate a lot of good eggs to the scrambled pile).

Go Eggies!
