Looking for Easter Hatch Buddies!!!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy...Easter is on the 4th of April. Mom2Munchkins ...I think it's wonderful that you have some growing. I'd be happy if 3 hatched out of 14 since this is my first hatch. I'm hoping more than one b/c no chick wants to be alone on his/her birthday. We candled our brown eggs today on my daughters 8th birthday. Out of 10 we have 3 unknown b/c the shell is to dark and 7 we seen them moving and the black spot or eyes. We smelled them and they didn't have a foul odor yet. Does anyone know about what day you should smell a rotten egg? Our temp is steady at 100.4 and our humidity came down to 37%. So far so good.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy...nice you have a sweet broody. My RIR hen went broody last winter and spooked my husband when he was getting the eggs. She made this awful growl at him, like she was going to tear his hand off.

Since we didn't have a rooster, we bought some 2 day old chicks at a local farmer, which she gladly adopted. As it turned out, all the 7 chicks were roosters

equine chick.. I hope you have a good hatch. My daughter likes the ameracuanas. We haven't bought any yet.

I didn't know you can give a broody hen day old chicks and make her happy!

That is too funny:celebrate
I have a broody hen that has lost her eggs twice in the past 2 weeks due to a mean hen. I have eggs in the bator that will hatch a day or 2 before Easter or maybe Easter Day!

I am going to try that because she is such a good mom. The mean RIR hen is leaving here this week, she was going to freezer heaven but someone on Craigslist is buying her and a few other trouble makers!

I wish everyone luck that is having an Easter hatch!!

I don't have any Ameracanas right now either, but my friend is going to give me 1 out of her order from Meyer Hatchery!!!
So I really happy about that!

I don't want to burst your bubble, but you still won't have an Ameraucana if it is coming from a Hatchery. Hatcheries only sell Easter Eggers which they mislabel As Americuana or Ameraucanas.

If you want a pure Ameraucana you need to get it from a breeder. There is nothing wrong with EEs ~ I have 3 EEs ~ 2 of them lay lovely green eggs & I love them!

We were lucky b/c we got the 2 day old chicks about the time her eggs would have hatched if they were fertile. We snuck them under her at night and watched her during that day.
