I'm looking to get a few eggs this spring - a couple of dark and a couple of white egg layers. I've been looking at Marans and Barnevelders for the dark eggs and I'm really not sure what breed would be good for the white egg layers. Any ideas are welcome.

One thing that I'd like to do is get birds that will blend into the environment so that they are a bit safer from the hawks. So definitely no all white birds.

thanks for your advice

I like Andalusians. They are pretty and the two girls I had were really friendly.

Gee, I sure wish I did! Seems like someone had them awhile back...wait, I think Jim Cox who sells Blue Orps and Marans on Ebay had some. He's in W. Va. and a friend was picking up eggs for me last year and I believe she got some Barred Hollands from him. Gosh, am I remembering correctly? Not sure. You could find him on Eggbid or Ebay and email and ask him if he's ever had them.

Boy, if you want easy going birds, Salmon Favorelles are for you. They are SOOOOOOOOOOO docile, just as sweet and gentle as can be. And mine are great layers too, large light brown, creamy colored eggs. And not to mention beautiful!!!!

I found that I do still have his email and I sent him an inquiry about them since we'd already corresponded before. I didn't see him on ebay or eggbid right now, although I could have missed it. I could swear it was him that had that breed. If not, he'll just think I'm a crazy lady, LOL.
