Ahhhh, Rock fan... you just made my day. I don't charge anything. I actually put money in a jar when new members ask a "certain question"... the 2 cents came into play because I "fished" for the question from a certain new member and gave the new member my "2 cent" opinion... I'm not good with math and adding nickels was so much easier before I stuck my foot out.

Anyway, I just believe that people should put more time and effort learning about something that is "alive" than they do for a cell phone they're thinking about buying. One day, the power grid will fall, and cell phones will be obsolete, and no, I'm not a prepper. I just think that 90% of the food we eat has been so "genetically altered" that we will kill ourselves with food (and don't get me started on the Colony Collapse Disorder with the honey bees or the species of vegetables that have been made extinct by big seed companies like Montsanto). When I was in high school, I don't remember girls being as "developed" as they are these days. And that's because the farmer has to feed his cows and chickens growth hormones to get them to the market to break even or make a profit. That growth hormone is then consumed by our kids in the form of chicken McNuggets combined with the fact that most kids physical activity involves the X-box or other gaming device. Have you noticed that nobody really wants to find the "cure" for obesity? The pharmeceutical (sp?) companies are making crazy money on pills for diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, so why find a cure that will put themselves out of business? My doctor at the VA "recommended" that I read a book by Dr. Dean Ornish due to my high cholesterol levels. Dean Ornish is a published Cardiologist who has found that a plant based diet can reverse cardiovascular disease and slow certain cancers. He worked for Prez & Mrs Clinton after Bill had his triple bypass surgery and totally reversed his heart disease. One of his books, the Spectrum, actually has scientific data to back up his claims. He doesn't state this in his book(s), but if quail eggs are packed with HDL, then I want to eat as many as I can.

OK, Now, I want to extend a sincere apology to all the people out there who have read my off topic rant, and wished they had those last 2 minutes of their lives back.

Just to throw this out there, keeping quail AND chickens is no problem here in the UK for anyone who might have been scared off by well intentioned american members. In fact, most quail owners here are also chicken keepers.

As for obesity, I definitely think that there's a problem with the high intensity farming methods in which animals are fed specially designed diets to make them grow big fast, that stuff has GOT to be getting through the food chain to us. Isn't it suspicious that pigs reach killing out weight in as little as 6 months?

And as for your theory on female development, it is likely because oestrogen is lipid soluble, i.e. more fat more oestrogen-powered changes.

amen!

My adventure with Quail started when I mentioned to a friend how I love fresh eggs, and would love to have chickens, but I live in town and they don't allow chickens. She asked me if I had ever tried Quail egg, and sent me home with a jar of them. I found that I loved them. When I did some research on them I found there was good reason for me to love them. So I determined to get some quail. My first batch hatched earlier this week! I have 35 little babies and I'm ecstatic.

In between the time of my conversation with my friend and me finally getting my quail, I happened to find myself in a meeting with the Mayor. I mentioned to her that I felt it was wrong that the citizens couldn't have their own chickens for egg laying. She encouraged me to get some, and said the city wouldn't do anything as long as no one complained about them. After deep thought about it, I decided they could keep their chickens. I've got my quail! :)

Best two minutes of my morning so far. I've got 3 kids and I needed a little push to do my first cull today.
