I came home the other day and feathers everywhere!!! My rooster was the only one left. He seems so lonely and sad. I was hoping to find him some full grown ladies because I won’t be getting baby chicks for another month or two and then he still has to wait a bit after that.

When I first started free ranging in 2023' 2 of my youngest hens went missing on the same day. Now I put my dogs out anytime I free range my chickens . Hope you find some hens for your rooster because he can't mate the chicks until they are laying age which takes about 6 months

That’s why I’m trying to find him some “mature ladies “for the moment because I usually prefer to get my young chicks in late April. And then after that, it’s a while of integration. So I was just looking for some ladies for the time being for him, I can get my young ones grown

Also, unfortunately, I can’t have a dog. It does make things a lot easier. How many years ago I used to have two

Is this the same rooster that was attacked a couple weeks ago? Glad he is getting better!

I don’t even at this point know that he was attacked. The congealed blood made it look like flesh sticking out of him. Plus with the freezing temperatures I think he actually must’ve cut his comb and I did not realize how much those bleed. Wow! Almost half his body was covered in blood So he’s doing well and couldn’t find any wounds once I got him done getting cleaned off and everything but I can tell he’s lonely. Hopefully I was able to recruit some help for this weekend to get the run closed in and get him at least some company safely before I start my new job.

Well, they can’t get in the run very easily. What had happened is the snow collapsed the top of the run and I didn’t realize the ladies were able to climb up one of the poles and get out. There’s no free range at my house for a reason and that’s the reason. All happened while I was at work. Coyotes and foxes are in high gear this year.
If you lost all your chickens in one day you can bet it will be back for him.Sorry for your loss!
