Hello everyone. Glad to be here. We have 2 Silkies. We rescued one that was abused by big chickens and we bought one as a little chickie.
Our hope was we will have to hens or rooster and hen. They both grew into roosters.

As the little one matured they started to fight and the little one became aggressive. We have had him since a baby and as a pet. He was always held,
well-fed, and cared for. He is beautiful, but his pecking at my children has become unacceptable. When he is held he is fine and happy but when you approach him there is no way of knowing his reaction. Mostly going straight for pecking you and establishing he is the boss.

We have tried spraying him with water to reduce unwanted aggressive behavior and it is somewhat helpful but it is not going away.

I feel at this point we have tried everything. We are not willing to engage in aggression toward him but having him peck us to a point of bleeding is not an option for our family. Since he was a baby chick he would be at home with us in the evening and during the night. He would be out in our yard during the day. We now have to have the two of them separated. And have decided to now only keep him outside mostly because we are all scared of him. It is not very joyful to have to put on gloves and boots and be fully closed in the heat of summer so you do not get pecked when you are giving him food.

We have considered getting Silkie hens to see if this would be helpful but it is hard to find Silkie hens and we do not want to take another chance of getting a little chicken that may turn into another rooster. We are also concern that if he is aggressive toward us he could hurt the baby chickens.

I would appreciate any advice but prefer to find someone that has a farm and many Silkies to rehome him.

I read that the rooster's testosterone levels are the highest the first two springs in their adulthood but I do not think we want to wait and be scared of him to attack us for another year to see if this gets better. He is an absolutely beautiful white Silkie and we would love to find a new home for him with someone that perhaps has more experience than us. We live in Delray Beach, Florida.

Thank you so much in advance.
