Hi, We have ordered some runner ducklings for this spring and I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers about raising them. I have had muscovies and some mixed calls before. I was just wondering how well the runners would do since the winters are pretty cold here. I'm building them there own shed as soon as spring arrives and they will have a fenced yard and a pool. I let my chickens free range most of the year. Could I let the ducks out as well when I'm around to make sure they're okay?

yes Runners are great ducks. They are great layers as well as foragers. They do just fine in the cold. They don't fly. They generally do not go broody, but don't tell my girls that as I had 2 broody girls this past year. You'll love runners. They are really fun to have.

Runners are tough little birds. Chrissy has had no problems with our Colorado winters.

She's insane even by duck standards, but she lays the HUGEST eggs ever and she is very entertaining
