We are from Weatherford and are currently in the process of moving to the Mingus and Strawn area. I hope that there are some members that are close by out there. We are every new to hatching our own chicks and have lots of questions that come up from time to time.
Hopefully there are a few that we can meet here that may have answers when we need them.

Welcome to BYC!

You can stop by your state thread and chat with your chicken neighbors to see if any of them do live nearby you...

Mountain Peeps has left you with the link to our learning center. Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry.

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC - TwoCrows has provided the place to meet your 'neighbors'.

Ok thanks.

Here's a really good question. My daughter has chicks that should have hatched by now or so I would have thought. It is now the start of day 24 and only 2 out of 18 have successfully hatched the third one died yesterday and we have a forth one that hatched but has not completely absorbed all of the yolk sack and can hardly move. What does she need to do and is it possible that the others may still hatch

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Not sure if you have seen the Hatching 101 article, they talk about unabsorbed yolk sacks about 3/4 down the page. www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 Generally leave the chicks alone in the incubator to finish absorbing the sack, or put it in a small jar so it stays still to do so. If they are on day 24/25 they probably won't hatch, chicks that hatch this late are also more likely to have problems and not make it.

I still have hope we had another hatch last night and there is still chirping coming from the incubator after I move the chicks to the brooder.
Maybe they are just late bloomers but I promised not to get my hopes up.
I will try to do the float test here shortly and the ones that move I will place back in the incubator and the others will be a lesson learned.
I may have purchased eggs that were improperly handled prior to me picking them up

Is there anyone that is located close to Weatherford tx that I can buy eggs from to hatch? I bought my last eggs from a gentle man on Craig's list any they have not turned out so well. We are on day 24 and only 4 have hatched out of 24 and I have one that had issues when it hatched and may or may not make it.

Hope to find someone out there that we can get better results from
