Hi,
My daughter and I are trying to hatch some bantam chickens. This is our second attempt at hatching eggs. Sadly our first attempt failed during lock down. I would love to have some other members who also set eggs around 6-13-15 to share the experience with.

This is a Girl Scout make your own badge project so I really hope it works out this time. My daughter hopes to be a vet so it's proven to be very educational.

Our first attempt was with 7 eggs purchased from eBay. They looked pretty good upon arrival but some had saddle air sacks. One proved not to be fertile. One died about day 6. Another died about day 12 and upon eggtopsy had tumors. Four made it to lock down. 2 pipped internally and 2 did not. None hatched.

Our first incubator was a styrofoam incubator me made ourselves. Since that failed we are now trying an Igloo cooler. We have a modified water heater thermostat, computer fan, 60w bulb and 7 thermometers(LOL). Humidity is about 50% and the temperature is fluctuating between 97 and 101 degrees.

We set 15 eggs (4 Silkies and 11 Seramas) on 6-13-15. We purchased them locally this time. We will candle them tomorrow night to see whats happening.

Good luck! I'll join you. I did not set on 6/13 but on 6/6. Since my eggs are geese we will still have the same hatch day, July 4th!

We did our first candling. Only saw 1 small spot in 1 of the 4 Silkies. I'm worried about them. Saw veining in all 11 of the Serama's but 1 looked a little odd. Not sure what's up with that one. Almost looked like an air sack at both ends? Is that possible? Overall hopeful that we will get some chicks.

I did! I set 9 shipped silkie eggs and 17 of my own BLRW! I candled the silkie eggs last night and it looks like all of them at least have veins. 7 for sure, 2 of them i could see the veins but no blob.. for the condition of the box on arrival, i am seriously surprised any are viable.

I had a broody whos eggs hatched a little early.. well.. tues/wed they hatched and i thought it was today!

happy hatching!! and I just realized today too, that the hatch day is the 4th!! I wont even be home that day!! AHH!

We candled again last night, day 7. Don't see much happening in our Silkie eggs but the Seramas were already bouncing all over the place. Major activity in 10 of the 15 eggs. Clear veins in atleast 2 of those without activity.

How are everyones eggs doing? I haven't heard from anyone. : (

We candled again yesterday and 12 of the eggs are still looking good. Looks like on is a twin so not sure if that will make it. The egg is big on both ends and air sack is more on the side. Pretty sure we saw 2 embryos moving. Hopeful but concerned. Tonight will be our last time to turn the eggs then we will put them in lockdown. July 4th is getting close and we are cautiously excited. The coop is almost complete. Sure would be nice to have some chicks to make it a home.

Just saw this! I set around 40 on the 14th.

I had a I've incubator failure last month and lost 100+ eggs.

I'm different than most, I pay almost no attention to my incubator. I set it and forget it, lol. Hopefully this will remind me when to lock down!

I did break one egg accidentally when I was replacing the fan in my incubator (that was the part that failed and overheated) :(

Mine are good! All are still coming along nicely. I did also have a hatch yesterday, four healthy cemanis :)
