I think this is a much more helpful attitude than a challenge to put up pics of perfect birds. There IS no perfect bird, but it can be very helpful to look at IMperfect birds with an honest eye.

If I get a chance later, I'll post pics of a coupla my birds. I have a handsome birchen roo, unfortunately clean legged, that you might like to look at.

No ione - the helpful part is to get people to actually post pics of their birds - not just to say go to this site or that, get off the "perfect bird" bit if you don't mind. This thread is for people to share not to snip - if that is your goal please take it to another thread

Here is my 5 mth.old BC Roo. Critique away. I am finding it hard to find all the standards in one bird. Is it possible? I don't know. I like this Roo's color, and shape, but his feathered shanks are lacking. I have 2 other younger BC Roo's I'am watching too.Waiting to see how they mature. There's alot to look for when it comes to the standard.I'am a newbee in the Marans Breed, but I think with shared knowledge we all can grow.

I didn't get a chance to get good pics of mine today. I do have this one pic of my favorite roo. He follows me everywhere and even pecks at the door for me to come out and he will even try to come inside! I will get some good ones of him so you can see his legs and some pics of the other roo and 2 hens. This roo doesn't have feathered shanks though. He just turned 4 months.

I won't be breeding him because he doesn't have feathered shanks. The hen that has feathered shanks I will hopefully be able to breed if she matures with really good French standard traits. I have my fingers crossed!

I don't even know what "snipping" is, Steve.

Sharon asked for pics "of Marans matching the proposed APA standard". Well, guess what -- only perfect birds will match the standard. That's what a standard is -- it's an ideal, something to reach for. It's not something that is completely obtainable in real life.

There is no perfect bird in the real world, so there is no bird that will completely match the standard. The best we can do is to show pics of our IMperfect birds, and try to learn from them.

If you want to learn from the pics being posted, that's great. But if you just want to keep stirring up trouble, that's getting really old....

Thank you everyone for posting pictures of your birds. This is great to find out that I am not the only one that has been looking for pictures. I hate being all alone in left field.

I hope that no one will "spoil" this thread and we can get some more people to post pictures. I think we can use this as a learning thread as long as everyone plays nice.

Here is a picture of one of our clean legged Cuckoo Roos:

Fitchcuckooroo.jpg

He is from the Fitch line of Cuckoos and we are going to keep the line clean legged. The Fitch line is a very old line and we feel that they need to be presevered in their original state. In the future, as everyone seems to be mixing and matching lines, these birds will become very rare as being a pure original line.

This is some of the chicks that we hatched out and here is the eggs

Marans, for whatever reason, seem to be a touchy subject here.

Play nice, folks. The sparks are already flying a bit in this thread, and I doubt anyone here wants to see it get locked.

Wow Sharon that's a gorgeous guy and those eggs are a delightful dark chocolate for the cuckoo marans!

I have five cuckoos that are just 12 weeks old. I have two cockerals and 3 pullets. One of the cockerals has feathered legs and one of the pullets has feathered legs. The rest are clean legged. In the last two weeks they have all really started to fill out nicely. The cockerals have really nice broad chests. I can only hope that I get eggs so chocolatty as yours!

Edited: to put the "s" on marans - cardinal sin here folks.
