Good Morning!

I'm hoping I can get a little help on here with these guys. I adopted 7 chicks that were hatched at my sons school for a life science lesson. Since we live in a city I cannot have roos but I'm strongly thinking at this point that my two favorites are indeed roosters

It's amazing how sweet and cuddly these two are, such little lovers.

This one I believe is a 4 wk old Barred Rock

The one in back is my other suspected roo, also 4wks. I'm guessing a RIR? But I have no idea! lol

Thanks in advance for your help, guys! I know you see this stuff all the time, lol!

With most of the popular chicken breeds and barnyard mixes, the tell tale sign, at 5-7 weeks is the red combs and red wattles. If you look close, you'll see cockerels sprouting small red wattles under their chins. You'll see cockerels will also sprout reddish combs. Pullets generally wait on those characteristics until much closer to maturity.

Once you, yourself, have trained your eye to see these developments, you'll be a good judge of sexes at 5 -7 week old chicks. Show that handsome young man those things to look for too! He'll love learning about such things.

Thank you so much! It makes sense that they would be mixes since I was getting so confused trying to figure out the breeds. So its safe to say they are officially roos? If so, its probably time for me to rehome them because we are getting so attached to them and they are pretty aggressive toward each other.

My sons absolutely love having chickens, especially my 8 year old who is in the picture! What a great experience for them!!
