Hi all,
Every time we get the slightest bit of weather, our current landline based internet cuts out. Rain, mist, cold, snow or wind.
Obviously, there's something not connected right but we've been unable to convince anyone to come out to fix it, they "reset our line", which magical makes it work again for about 10 days unless there's more weather.

We're considering satellite internet for this reason and I don't know what good or bad or if it's a viable solution.

I'm aware it can stop working in heavy clouds and weather as well but I'm hoping a lot less than our current service.

Any ideas or other recommendations?

I've heard Starlink is pretty good.

Depending where you live I recommend starlink. You'll need a clear view of the sky. We were some of the 1st people to try it out the beta testing. I was literally the only one on my road with good Internet for about 2 years before other in my area could get it. I've actually never had an issue in bad weather. I have 3 teenagers all online games. 20 + device on it at all times. $120 month definitely worth it.

We've had sooo many satellite service providers it isn't even funny. I think we have 3 or 4 satellite receivers on our roof and two embedded in concrete in the front yard. Horrible service expecially in wind, rain and snow. Which we have a lot of.

Then - we got Starlink. Ta-ddaaa! No problems. It just works. And it's FAST! I would recommend it to anyone who can get it. Run, don't walk! It's amazing. Ten thumbs up. 18 stars. It's that good, no complaints.

Sadly, starlink is really the only logical answer anymore. And I hate it.
You hate it because there's not really any other options or just because it's Starlink😅

It's like here, there's only 1 cable service, so there's really no choice.

After Helene hit us so hard, we started looking into Starlink, they offered a very good deep discount for those of us hit by Helene, so the upfront was not very much $$ and we had I think 6months of service free.
It's all we use now, it's been reliable and if we lose power, we can use the generator to have access if we want to do that. I'm sure there's pros/cons, but for us, it works.

I dislike Starlink for a number of reasons. Some is politics, some is insider knowledge of how they operate internally, and some is because of their impact on the night sky and the amount of garbage they've fired into orbit in general.

The service they provide is great, which is the sad part. So many people rely on it for connectivity. They've got a stranglehold on the market so deeply that they can do whatever they want with essentially no competition. Their consumers will either have to eat it or go without.

I understand folks who use it and are happy. Be happy as long as you can with it. Just remember there's a large stick hovering over that carrot, and you never know when it will whack you.

I have Hughesnet and am happy with it.

Yes, there are times when extreme weather will occasionally knock it out but it's rarely out for long.

A couple of years ago, a storm knocked the satellite dish out of position; a service rep came out within a day and repositioned it. Can't complain at all.
