Looking to buy a few pretty chickens -- upstate NY!

Hi -- I'm trying to find a few hens to add to my little chicken empire. I don't want baby chicks -- I'm hoping to find some slightly older juvenile birds who are ready to be outside without heat lamps. I love Barred Rocks, or any nice-looking critters. I have 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte and 1 Speckled Sussex that we would like to find good homes for. I just bought too many for the size of the chicken tractor we built. They are from McMurray Hatchery, hatched 3/29. They are happy, handled by me and my 9 and 5 yr old kids and healthy. We are in western NY (Geneseo)

I am looking for a few chickens too. I am also in Upstate. Not far from Binghamton. I am about 2 1/2 hours from Geneseo. I am very new at this. I was raised on a farm in Louisiana, but since moving to NY I have not have any chickens. I have waited until we purchased land with a barn in the "country". We are now free from the city life and have the room for a few chickens. My children and I have been searching out just the right kind of chicks for us. I have raised Auracaunas, silver laced wyondattes, RIR previously. I think I might want to add to the mix some cochins, buff orpingtons, and black austrolorps. any ideas??? thanks for reading.

Once you start looking at all the breeds it's easy to want a few of many varieties. Of ours, the easiest for the kids to handle are the Red Star (hybrid), the Polish, and the Buff Orp. The RIR is starting to get very sweet now that it's larger. The Speckled Sussex and Sil L Wyandottes are a bit skittish but will settle down after you spend a bit of time with them. The White Rock and the Black Star are very skittish all the time. We have two older laying hens that are wonderful with the kids: a Golden Comet and a Bl Australorp/Wh Leghorn cross. They follow us all around the farm, come running when you call and lay a dozen eggs a week between them. If you ever are headed toward Geneseo send me an email and I'll show you the flock.
