Looking to Buy Laying Hens, TX

Hum....we quit going to 1st Monday's because of the animal issue. Guess we will have to go check it out. Coming from Cleburne how would I find it?

Take HWY 171 toward Weatherford, get on I20 headed east, exit 180 head west (look for all the car dealerships), Market is on the Left hand side (I'm guessing about 3 miles).

the place that it is held at is called Frontier Park I believe, its in between a headstone place and copper pumpkin on fort worth hwy. and dont let all the parking for 3 dollars fool you, its free parking on site

I just got off the phone with a man at the Joshua Feed Store.
He said he's getting up to 100 laying hens this Thursday.
He said the birds are from New Mexico.
He got about 75 hens last week and they were all sold in a day.
He said they are all "de-beaked" (that sounds horrible!).
He should know what breed and how many he gets by noon on Thursday if anyone is interested. He got all Rhode Island Reds last week.

I was in there yesterday around 5 and he only had about six chicks in there. I was favoring getting one but didn't. It was white, but had a blue'ish tint to it. I guess I should have asked what kind it was.

He said all the RIR's were gone in a day, so I'm not sure what he has in there now.
He said the laying hens he's getting on Thursday are 11 months old.
I wonder what he'll get???

When chicks are young, some people clip a "small" portion of the beak off so that they will not pick at one another. Chickens can be peak holes in other birds (cannibalistic), especially when confined to close quarters.

I personally hate it.

The laying hens this guy is bringing in are probably production birds from an egg farm. The hens are de-beaked since they are crammed into such small places. It also helps prevent egg breakage.
