looking to make a change...need input

:lau I would LOVE to get you some!

I've worked very hard and keep culling out stock, being too picky about meeting the standard of perfection. Last batch I hatched turned out 7 boys and 2 girls! Possibly 2 keepers out of that whole bunch, and even then it's only because I'm still getting going. they are more like back ups in case something happens like predators or illness. Even though I'm a bit of a softee, I understand quality and do NOT keep any that have faults for breeding. My layers get some leeway though because they are mostly on pet status because of their personalities.

But I'm such a procrastinator with sooo many projects, my breeding is slightly delayed. Was hoping to start by August, I also don't breed my birds before they reach full maturity at 1 year old to allow full development of the reproductive system in order to give better chick vitality (less deformities). Plus when they are pullets they lay pullet size eggs. Smaller eggs are going to hatch smaller chicks which is going to give smaller birds. Patience is a virtue! So I won't have any until spring. Since I'm not NPIP though it might be illegal to ship chicks. Not sure about eggs.

I would be happy to share the place I got mine... though I wouldn't (probably) buy again. Well, it would depend. Some breeds I was satisfied with like the Lavender Orpington and the Marans. But not the Salmon Faverolles. They also did have Brahma and a few others. And seems like it was over there on your side of the country. Name is Northwoods Poultry, they have a web site. At first I wasn't sure about the quality of Marans. But the more Marans I see for sale in my area, the more I can tell my quality is very decent and a good place to start.

Although I always invite people to come check out the beautiful north coast of CA! ;) You'd be surprised how many takers I get and so far haven't received any negative feedback about my birds even though they traveled pretty far. But there's a first time for everything. And with the breeder I used, I try to keep in mind that EVEN show quality stock will not throw 100% show quality offspring. And her service and chick vitality were exceptional. After spending 4 days in shipping because USPS has issues on my route specifically.. I had 15 out of 22 survivors. Verses 2 shipments that were total losses from hatcheries even though they made it here faster.

You can see how my mind works! :barnie Too many things...

Sorry for the long story. I'm definitely passionate. :) If I could legally get you some in a time frame that worked, I would be honored to do so.
