I volunteered to look after this terrific couple, a Khaki Campbell girl and a Cayuga drake, for the last four months while the owners were on a long vacation and I fully expected to return the ducks to them about now. However, they are in the process of moving out of state and cannot take the ducks along.
We are not set up to keep them long-term; I only borrowed the enclosure from a neighbor. We don't consume meat or eggs; we only have emotional rewards—the ducks are quite trainable, curious, and social—for the work and expense. I don't do well outdoors, with the heat and all.
We already learned that we need to separate the two for duckling safety, which we cannot do with our setup, so I hoped to have them join a flock. A farm with a pond fell through at the last minute today, so I am shaken, as this is not my MO.
The ducks are healthy, two years old, and have been together since they were ducklings. I am looking for a loving home. The photo shows them (following me) to the enclosure to enjoy the mealworms I am carrying.
