We're glad to have you.

as you plan think "square", you get the most area inside your fence with a Square. the pen I just finished was 28x28

some of the wood I used was previously used for concrete forms. Concrete damages saw blades and the builders throw away the 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10........... Make friends with framers and concrete subcontractors, the supervisor of the building project where I found my wood was a Marine who served in Iraq.

If there is a work shop near your, they usually get rid of off cuts for free, and you can get big bags of wood chips that you can use as bedding.
Welcome!!!
Ex batteries are a good place to start if you don't want eggs right away because they are very docile birds and have had every vaccination, it also feels very rewarding for them to grow their feathers back under your care.
Polish are a great ornamental breed that are very funny to look at.
Rhode Island reds and Barred rocks are good multi purpose breeds.
Beware though, chickens are very addictive!!!!

hopefully you will decide to get some chickens. you will embark on such a wonderful journey!!

I have defiantly decided that I want a small farm with chickens as my main source but I'm trying to budget my self being a new dad at a new house that had to be rebuilt. Iv paid for it all on this deployment but I know some how I want to raise chickens!!! I need help though getting the coop done that's for sure but we will see how it all works out.

You'll get a couple, then start looking at chicks and before you know it Chicken Math has hit and you have moved to the country side to raise poultry and live off the land. It's a slippery slope! :)
