I have an older hen that her under back part of belly has had what looks like a tumor it had gotten worse the past few days. It was low to the ground but didn't touch the ground. I could tell something was probably going to happen with it and it did. It looks like part if her intestine could be hanging out if where the tumor opened up. I have her in the house. I just don't know if there is anytbing that can help her. My plan is to take her to the vet.Any advice please

Keep the exposed intestines moist with saline if you can until the vet sees her. However, it's not normally possible to reinstall intestines once they fall out of the abdominal cavity. Prepare for the worst. I'm sorry.

A photo would help us see if this is as bad as it sounds.

I can't see intestines, but the swollen abdomen with the tumor hanging down looks like a very bad case of reproductive cancer. There is probably much more cancer inside.

Fill a spray bottle with saline solution, sterile water with a little salt and baking soda, and spray her tumor and intestines to keep them wet until the vet sees her.

Sometimes really awful things happen to our chickens and we feel helpless to help them. It can really grind up your emotions and spit them out. I've had three chickens work mine over this month. Two died, but looks like this third will survive.

The longer you have chickens, the longer the list of those that died that you've had a close bond with. It hurts a lot, but life is richer for having them that short time.

Ohhhh i agree 100% the hurt is so hard but the time i have had with the ones i have lost have been so rewarding to my life!! i started raising chickens about 10 years ago and i have had some wonderful girls!! ive lost alot and it never is easier. i told my husband im not planning on getting anymore chickens after these cause the heartache is so bad. i thought today i cant really see myself without chickens in my life. i love them dearly

When I lose a chicken, I promise myself that I can get a few new baby chicks. I had such heartache a few weeks ago when my two chicks were poisoned by a buck moth caterpillar, that I may get myself some fall chicks. Never fails to console me. I promised myself the same thing last night when I cried myself to sleep worrying I was going to lose this third chick to a very bad case of sour crop and digestive tract obstruction. As it is, she appears to be making a great recovery.

Such is life with chickens. We will lose some. We will snatch some back from near death. And there are always baby chicks to heal the heart.
