Looks like we are using wooden pallets - any lessons learned to share?

Thank you! I will look into that. We are still in the planning and gathering stage. We just really need this to be as cheap, um cost effective, as possible. There are not as many yards and mills near as as before but I can see that it is worth checking into.

I am starting to have brain overload.

Have you chosen your design yet? I love what this guy did in France:

Check out the eight thumbnails (click on each to enlarge) -- really creative use of discarded pallets over there!

I am in the process of building my coop out of pallet crates. It started out as a pallet coop project...but then I found the cull bin at Home Depot, so it has plywood & OSB walls, lol. Here is what I have done so far though...

The nails in the crate on the right are totally rusted, so they aren't just popping out like they did on the other one. The heads of the nails are flying off and becoming little metal missiles though when I try to pry one off! The open spot is the clean out door, I'll attach the plywood threre through the chunks of wood left behind when I cut the boards to make the door hole.

I too am building a coop out of pallets.... frustrating so far.

Not all pallets are the same size and if you don't pre drill some of them crack. Also I have the floor together but pallets only have runners on two sides so if you screw the walls and floor together then you have nothing to screw into the side from wall to wall! :/We are going to re-group and get 2x4 scraps to insert into the open end of the pallets. We'll see how this turns out. The roof should be easy as we will use bigger pallets on the front and smaller ones on the back wall to slope the roof to the rear. I will post pics of the whole thing when (if) I finish this. I still have hope though!!
