One of my hens has a poopy butt. A few days ago I noticed her crop was swagging and realized she has sour crop. I emptied the crop of liquid and with held food from her. After 24+ hours gave her coconut oil for the yeast. 2 days later her crop was empty of the food except a tiny bit of liquid so yesterday morning I let her back out to eat after giving her more coconut oil for the infection. She filled back up with food and I hoped she'd empty it out last night but she still has some in her crop this morning. The crop is really loose. How long does it take for the crop to go back into shape?

If the crop was very stretched out then it may have become a pendulous crop. Most times that is permanent, the muscle won't go back to it's original condition. That makes it not empty fully and can cause recurrent sour crop. If it's pendulous then a crop bra may help. It helps support the crop so that it can empty. Some birds tolerate them well, some do not. It can take some time and many adjustments to get them on properly. Don't put it on too tight at first, you don't want to force crop contents back up the throat. Tighten it gradually over a few days until the crop is empty and it's fitting and supporting properly. You also need to monitor the bird to make sure she doesn't get hung up in it while getting accustom to it. I've had them walk backwards, roll over on their back, or high step and get legs caught in it. I make my own, you can also purchase crop bra's.
