loose dog troubles

shoot it, if you keep scaring him off and he keeps coming he obviously isnt getting the message. Either that or give a good wack with something hard. If your nieghbour expects everybody else to tie and fence up their aniamls so the HIS o(or HER) dog can run free then there is something wrong with him. (or her)

I hate people who let their dogs roam....I have lost some many animals to dogs running loose... Wish people would get a few days in jail, maybe then they would keep their dogs under control. Yes I keeep all mine penned... Lost them behind fences or in their pens.

Just lost a pr of my white Kelso today... Was getting 50.00 + for dozen of their eggs. Lost a grand gamebird, because some dumb *&^% can't keep their dog up. Yes sure its a dog print near the birds.

you set up some very bad behaviors by allowing your dogs to roam and the neighbors dog to stay and play. Coop your chickens until you can secure your property. You just changed the rules on the neighbors dog and the dog has no idea why and the neighbor is not going to be motivated to do anything because you allowed the problem in the first place. Keep your own dogs on your own property and fence fence fence.

Sorry CAN'T feel bad for you, as you let your dog roam also. your neigbor is wrong for letting his roam, but right tit for tat...People need to KEEP Their animals on their own property !!!!!!!!!

If your dog goes into his yard then you cant say a thing... nothing.
But if your dog just got out once on accident..then thats another thing...
I'd catch his dog and bring it to a pound... say it was a stray running down your livestock....

this morning 3 neighbor dogs came over my property tried to kill my chickens, my cousin went out chased them with BB gun and they fled. I drove over and talk to them nicely about their dogs has been over my property tried to kill my chickens. I don't want to kill those dogs, I know it's not their fault but I just might have to do it to save my chickens.

Why don't you and your neighbor go in for a boundry fence together? He says that he is working on a solution, so how about an "invisable" fence? I think since you are negotiating with the neighbor about the problem, and he is working on fixing it, you should not harm it at this point. Why not be straightforward, tell him that until he comes up with a solution, he must keep the dog confined? Also, if a perimiter fence is not an option, dog kennels are an excellent option. If placed on a grid of pavers, the dog cannot dig out of the kennel. You can even put a tarp roof on it, or a more permanent metal one, like mine for a goose pen. Here's a pic:

Firstly I'd get an invisible fence for your dogs. If they roam onto his property then there isn't anything that you can say about his running free. You can probably run a pretty big perimeter around your yard so that they can still provide adequate security for your outbuildings and the like.

Then you get his dog a collar for your fence. If it tries to get across it will get shocked. Eventually it will learn the perimeter. It costs you some extra money but resolves the problem. Heck he may even pay for the collar.

If a dog comes into my yard they get stung with a BB or pellet. If they come in an get threatening to me, my wife, our animals, etc... Things get a little more serious. And a .22 isn't reliable to take down a dog.

Dogs should not be in his yard eating his dog's food. His dog should not be in your yard chasing chickens. It's never a good idea to let dogs roam. If your dog is running with the neighbor dog, you might be surprsed at how much trouble they can get into together. Sooner or later they will pack up and start killing another neighbor's animals. Neither of you should be assuming that it's harmless to let the dogs roam.
