i have not read all replys...but

NO NO NO.. ANIMAL CONTROL get PAID to help you.. they HAVE to help you.. dont let them give you an excuse!!! call them EVERYDAY. if you pay taxes you are paying for their help,. make them help you...
find and read the laws yourself,, i cant belive there is no leash laws????
get PICTURES of the dogs, on your property...
if nobody helps you.. SHOOT those dogs... even if there is no "leash" laws there ARE laws about domestic dogs killing your livestock...
rent or buy a dog trap.. animal control DOES have them for problem dogs.... get one!!! they have to bring it, set it up, and take away any dog in it...

sorry touchy subject for me.. too many of my animals have been killed by loose dogs...

It's hard if you're gone when it happens. Darn! Can you trap them?

It's easy if you see the dog........SSS.

But if you're not home.......try to find a way to trap them I guess.

I also live in the country, as im sure many members here do, and like in your county we have no leash laws. There have been instances like that here, severe ones with calfs. Standing rule is the owner gets one warning. My neighbor has 60 head of red angus, and he lost one to some neighboring dogs. Thats a big deal. Apparently his son was able to identify them, and they made it known to the owners, and of course it happened again. Not instantly but overtime when the owners got complacent the dogs went back and three of them were shot that night. Its happened to you more than once, I say you need to make it known to the owners because someone else might not be as forgiving as you are and may take action into their own hands.

Just to let you know that in our state, SC, it is unlawful for the owner to allow his dog to be at large off of his property and you DO have the right to kill said dog that is "worrying" your chickens or livestock. A dog at large killing or threatening other animals is considered by the courts to be a nuisance animal and the courts here have zero tolerance for that.
Traps do work if you can get animal control to pick them up, ours are wonderful and they also informed me that if I shoot it they will dispose of it for me. So far I have trapped several but haven't had to shoot any.
There are too many diseases these dogs may have to take a chance, a lot of rabies in this area, if the owner is not responsible enough to care for their animals why would I believe they would be bothered to vaccinate it?
I love all animals but am not about to let someone's stupidity endanger my family or kill my babies. All of my neighbor's have been warned that I take safety of myself and my chickens seriously so they now keep them penned, so far. I only wish they took the health and well being of their dogs as seriously as I do that of my chickens.
