My Columbian Rock hen has a large flap of skin (from the back of her head and neck) hanging from, and attached to the featherless area near her eye.
From the various threads I have read, I have come to the conclusion that my hen's injury was started by an over-excited (and well spur endowed) roo, and worstened by the pecking hen flock.
It has been 7 days since the injury. I have segregated the hen, and soaked the bare flesh in iodine twice now. Tonight, I trimmed off the obviously dead portion of the skin flap.
*I am worried that the remaining piece of hanging skin is going to cause problems with the eye, but I don't know how to avoid this! If I trim the skin any closer, I am quite certain it will bleed (any maybe continue to bleed!).
