Losing Chicks

I definitely get more food in their stomachs if I break it down (we have a Magic Bullet just for this purpose), so keep going with that.

It sounds like you are doing what you can and I wish you success. But unfortunately when you deal with living animals you sometimes have to deal with dead animals. That is the circle of life. I've had dogs put down because they got so old they had no quality of life left. I've put down a severely injured cat. That one really hurt, she was still young and was a great cat. I've had chickens and chicks die and put some down because they were suffering. It is part of having animals. That does not make it easy.

Thank you. No it doesn't. It sounds like you've always had pets, as have we. This year, we lost a litter of 2 premature kittens. I thought the mama (stray) was going to die too, but I saved her and had her spayed. She's a totally different cat now. She's doubled her weight and sleeps happily on my porch all day. Losing those babies still hurt, though. Thank you for your kind words!

@thecatumbrella I fed the baby some scrambled egg, which I feel like she ate like a fanatic, given her size. My question now, does she need grit? It was a plain egg, no oil, butter, or any seasonings at all.

It doesn’t hurt to offer grit to chicks anyway, but I don’t think scrambled egg requires it though. It’s more for hard, fibrous things like seeds/grass/etc. I start offering chick grit as soon as they have bedding… because they eat the bedding.

Yeah my others have had it starting starting around 2 weeks. I put a small amount in there with them, and they all ate some. Thank you!
