Losing feathers....

I have a coat that loses feathers once in a while. The pointy end of the feather (quill?) would start to poke out of the fabric not even at the seams and then push out. Seemed to happen in areas that usually had more contact with stuff like the seat belt and sitting back in a chair. I never noticed a bunch, just random feathers, but my coat did get thinner.
