Losing her head feathers (Polish)

Those are definitely new feathers coming in. It's an odd age to molt, but polish are odd. Keep an eye on it. That exposed skin can draw in pecking from other birds.

I know. I thought someone was pecking her but when I recorded them in their yard, nobody even bothered her.
I've seen pecking more at dusk on the roosts, so that's when you might want to quietly observe them or record them. Last year I even had one polish plucking another polish. Bluekote is my go-to concealer on a polish crest. I always put them down when it's still wet in case someone wants a taste, which they quickly wish they hadn't.

The only one everyone was pecking, was the cockerel. He's growing new feathers as well.

For some reason roosters will allow feather picking from hens. I think they enjoy the grooming, but it often goes too far. You are reminding me why I haven't gotten more polish. I'm down to 2 now.
