Hello friends,

Looking for advice. 2 months ago I hatched 40 hybrids, I also had a broody hen sitting on 13 eggs, one day I noticed a rotten smell from the nest and noticed one egg had smashed and bad smell was coming from 3 others. I disposed of the bad eggs and finsihed the eggs off in more sanitary conditions in the incubator. 7 hatched and within 2 weeks 2 had died with paralysis. All seemed ok for the next 3 weeks now another has started to show same symptoms, legs bending, laying down alot. I have mixed them now with the 40 I hatched and am now concerned I could be infecting more this way.
Does this sound like Mareks and if so what would be good advice ??

Any help appreciated.

Gracias

Mareks usually doesnt start to show symptoms until about 10-11 weeks of age...could they have gotten into something spoiled? Botulism comes to mind...?

Thanks for reply,

There was certainly some bad bacteria or virus with the eggs under the broody hen. In the end 4 or 5 were rotten. So whatever got in was in the development stage of embryo's.

After rcvng your advice it looks less like mareks.

Many thanks, any further thoughts would be gratefully rcvd.

Unfortunately, when hatching ...if the bad egg goop got all over the eggs that hatched, it is most likely the developing chicks absorbed bacteria too through their shells;( sounds like neurological issues from it...have you tried antibiotics? Im sorry...
