Lost 10 cockerels while I was out of town

I'm going to Idaho to get me a Heeler. Come on Buster...one more litter, just one more this year

Hmmmmmm...... I really haven't decided yet. I am watching her to see how fast she recovers from this litter. She is looking good. Actually the pups stripped her down to a weight she should be at instead of being on the heavy side.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be tough to be breed her again? You'd have to keep them in the house because of the winter, and it would probably be harder to sell them in the winter then in the summer. Well if we take one, MNC takes one, PC takes one, and Henrietta takes 4, that might be her whole litter right there

Too true! I like to have 4-6 spoken for before I breed her anyway, just to avoid having to keep any that may not sell. BYC took care of that for me this year. I haven't had a problem selling every single one I have, but I'd like to avoid the problem.

Stop giving Buster more reasons not to breed for me!! We can get them spoken for!! If and when mama can do another litter this year, I know people need Heelers!

Just trying to point out obvious stuff

It's hard to breed dogs, especially in the winter. If we breed our heeler it won't be until next spring too.

And you wouldn't want any of them to end up as "Christmas puppies"

Are you talking about your blue? How old is she?

Spring is a good time, but I have a friend who breeds so that the pups will be available around Christmas time (when possible). He has a lot of luck this way. I have said before that I won't get another stock dog unless I can get it in January or February because the age and development work out good for the training for stuff we do on the ranch, but that's just me.

Our blue is almost 4.

And MNC, before you get a heeler, you should do ALOT of reading. Visiting one and living with one are 2 whole different things. These dogs need a job to do and have a ton of energy. We compete in agility, herding, fly ball, and obedience with our blue heeler and will start with the puppy soon, so aside from them herding the chickens and keeping them safe they do all that, which probably still isn't enough. There is a herding trainer right in Bozrah that we will be going to, so if you decide you want a heeler maybe you can come to one of the classes.
