Guys, I made a mistake of buying a hen for my 9 months old, very active and healthy, roo. They are fine for a week. She laid some eggs too. Suddenly on monday morning I found the hen laying still still with eyes closed and breathing with mouth open. Breathing was almost shaking the complete body like if she's having hard time to breathe. Tried to separate her but in couple of hours she was gone. The next day when I was changing water and feed for my roo, I noticed him bit lethargic. On the evening he too was showing the similar symptoms. Gave him Teramycin dissolved in water but no effect. I then took him to a vet store, though vet wasn't available that time but a man there checked it and said that he's having very sever chest congestion. Here I may add that yes his breathing were causing some sounds like a child did with chest congestion. He gave me another antibiotic Enroxsel-10 which I gave him with water too. Now, I don't know it's the medicine or the bird was destined for it, the comb of him started to turn black-ish very rapidly. I was now sure that he won't survive the day. I took it to the vet again. Vet right after seeing his condition said that he's 'NewCastle' disease and there's no hope for him. Asked to put him down to ease the pain ;(. I have got other birds too. Though, luckily they are in a room which is physically separated and I somehow haven't allowed them to mingle together. I have now restricted my other flock only to their coop. No free ranging till I get to clean the outer coop, where they were and disinfection of the area.
Right now, I am more interested in what the symptom suggest. Does it really seems like 'Newcastle' or what? Though I should mention that his feathers were not being easily pulled. Cuz we handled him quite some times during the disease but no feather came out. I cleaned him too with my hands as he was trying to hide in corners and some ants were stuck to his body. Kindly disregard my jumbled up writing, so confused on this happening. Kindly do help on the reason and suggestion for prevention in other flock. Thanks
