We lost 2 of our 10-11 week old pullet chicks today. The one the died tonight I watched all day. She was off balance some what, lethargic, kept closing her eyes. This afternoon she drank some but when I picked her up, I must have leaned forward some because water came out of her beak. Her crop felt full of liquid, it was soft and squishy, not firm. The other girl was gone this morning, so I'm not sure if her symptoms were the same. I have one other, a boy, that is acting sleepy, weak, etc....No fluid coming out of his beak tho and his crop felt small and soft. His comb is flopped over, it's small, but not standing up like it normally does.
No other symptoms. Could they have eaten something bad for them? They do have access to our layer's feed, but don't typically go for it. We don't use pesticides or fertilizers, no garden. I'm worried I'll lose all my little ones.
Can anyone offer advice? I should add that I separated the little boy from the rest of the 4 girls. The rest seem ok, not lethargic, not acting sleepy or off balance, not closing their eyes.
