lost 3 of 5 layers

What is a fisher? That's a new one on me--unless it's another name for something...

I'm so sorry about your losses. That is always heartbreaking. I have lost so many I've lost track. And every time, I learn something new about keeping predators at bay.

I do not hurt native predators. They have enough challenges facing them without me adding to their troubles. If that means they occasionally get a meal at my expense, then I will just have to live with that.

Domestic dogs are another issue entirely--I will do whatever necessary to keep them away, even if that means trapping or killing.

My ducks do not like to be in a house at night, so they are shut in a very secure pen. The pen is chain link, with welded wire both over and under. There is hardware mesh secured around the bottom couple of feet to keep raccoons from reaching through (ducks roost on the ground). Everything is very tightly secured, and the gate is both latched and locked with a bicycle lock.

Occasionally, a critter finds a breach in my defenses, and each time I have to make adjustments. But I'm getting better at it.

Good luck with your adjustments. I hope you don't have any more losses.

thanks curiositycat

here is fisher info. by the map in the 2nd link, you would never encounter these in your area! here in NH we have them. they are feared by cat owners as they are suspected in taking many a house cat.

agree with you on the defenses, if i were to kill every predator i would likely spend more time disposing of bodies than collecting eggs. we'll see if my attitude changes on that.

Thanks for link planker! How cute! It's amazing that something that adorable can be such a pest! lol

I spent a year in East Derry when I was in 11th grade. Best year of my teenage life. Pinkerton Academy--great high school, and I only regret that I had to move before graduating. I still wish it were my alma mater, and I'm 35 years old, lol!

NH is gorgeous. But I suppose I'm grateful not to have to deal with fishers!
