LOST 4 BABY CHICKS

My babies are brooded outside and wean themselves off their MHP by the time they are 4 - 5 weeks old, with night time temps often down to low 30's sometimes high 20's.
You are making a sissy's out of those chicks.Got to teach them about living in real world.I say kick them out between 2 and 3 weeks old.
Next thing you will be telling us is your 30 something yr. Old child is living in your basement.
Can't coddle them forever

Yes if I had the power to move them and their MHP outside I would have done that today:D. I could run an extension cord there(off a GFI circut), but wouldn't be willing to take that risk. It doesn't rain here much but when it does it usually rains sideways and am not comfortable with those risks.

Current expected freeze line:

I'm just teasing you.you can keep your chicks in broader as long as you want.
But if you have child in 30's living at home give them the boot.

For some reason the freeze area on this map is making me crave a chocolate covered frozen banana. Its 85°f at my house

It's almost impossible to find chocolate covered frozen bananas at stores nowadays.I have to wait for County Fair.

last night we lost 4 baby chicks , they were crushed by the other chicks as they huddle close . they were about a week old . the box I'm using is a Walmart box its about 3ft by 2 1/2 a huge box now we are down to 8 chicks . they all were doing well than this wife didn;t take it well . poor chicks were flatend
Oh I wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to your wife on the loss of your chicks. I totally agree with the adequate heating posts as they shouldn't be crowding together that tightly if they are properly warmed. Someone once posted chicken are death. My first flock got wiped out early this month(after they had been laying for 3 months) so I am starting over(ours was a rescued dog that got bored when I took a nap). Please secure your property as I have lost another to a neighbor dog, also I started with 10 this time and 3 just went down on their legs once they used up their yolk reserves at day 2 and 3. I am assuming they had congenital defects. Regardless it was still traumatic to watch em dropping, and one even died in my wife's hand. :hugsBest wishes on the rest of your flock.

You can always move 24yr old to coop in garage

Do you plan on keeping chickens inside every winter or is this because they are chicks?
