I had 6 chicks in a brooder and they all seemed to be fine this morning when I changed their water. I come home and notice that one of my speckled sussex that had zero symptom of stress and seemed perfectly healthy this morning just laying there flat and dead. The other chickens seem to be ok. I checked for wounds or blood and none in sight. What could have happened? Does this just happen to generally healthy chickens they just drop dead for no reason?

I've actually had the same thing happen to a Rhode Island Red chick of mine once. It was perfect in the morning and later in the day I found it dead under the heat lamp. It was about 3 weeks old. I wonder if the temps got to warm or what.

I don't have the lamp on them anymore where I live and. Them being in the garage it gets around 80 in the garage the other chicks seems to be doing fine so far

That's really weird then. Maybe it had a heart attack. I know that's common with the broilers but I don't hear about it much with normal breeds. Beats me. Wish I could help
