We had a broody hen and one day I saw a little yellow face peeping out from under her. Got the chick out from under her and her legs were splayed out to the sides and she couldn't stand up. Googled it and found a you tube video for how to make a brace for spraddle leg. We brought her in, put the brace on and kept her in a box with shavings to try to fix the legs. That was 2 days ago. We had chick starter in there for her but I was afraid to put a water bowl in there for fear she'd drown so we were just offering water several times a day under supervision. The first day she did well but when we took the brace off 24 hours later there was no improvement so we put the brace back last night. This morning she looked kind of weak and when I was giving her water she would take one sip and then act like she wasn't interested. I noticed some small orange/brown bugs crawling on her and one crawled off on my hand and I squished it. I had to leave for work so I sent my husband a text asking him to pick up some poultry dust but shortly after I got to work my son sent me a text that the chick had died. Do you think she died from the parasites or could it have been dehydration? I feel so bad that we couldn't save her:(

No you did nothing wrong sometimes that happens. I just lost a cat seven years old she just collapsed nothing was ever wrong with her and we rushed her on a Saturday night to the vet emergency they tried everything but it was her time. People and animals have a calling home just like a newborn that dies unexpectedly. She is too in heaven where no one hurts and lives forever. You are not to blame.

I'm so sorry for your loss :( its sad when a pet dies but u got to move on maybe next time? Right? Defects happen its not your fault. I'll pray in the future for your chickens and other family pets . :)
